Malachi Breaks His Arm

So Saturday afternoon I was out front pulling weeds and Malachi was trying to be Mommy's big helper. Well I'm not exactly sure if he was walking or running, but I know he definitely didn't notice or at least forgot about the drop off at the retaining wall. I was kneeling down pulling weeds when all of a sudden I heard him crying. I jumped up and realized exactly where he was, so I ran over and found him face down on the driveway. I quickly picked him up, gave him a hug, checked his face and made sure didn't break any fingers and then told him he needed to get a Kleenex for his nose. So I sent him to the front porch. When I heard him still crying I knew something was wrong. I went up to the porch to find him holding his arm and saying it hurt. As soon as I looked down I saw his right forearm bent funny and swollen. I felt horrible for not catching it right away. I quickly told Levi and took off with him to the hospital. Apparently it was the day for broken bones because there was a line of people waiting for x-rays. On top of getting an x-ray the doctor also had a cat scan done to make sure he didn't hurt anything else due to where and how he landed. The cat scan came back fine, but the x-ray showed he broke both bones in his forearm and they had to reset his arm. Oh was that not fun. Thank goodness they knocked him out with some drugs, but the whole process still wasn't pleasant.

By the time we got home and I took this picture it was after 9pm, which is a good 1 1/2 past his best time. So on top of being tired he had had a pretty crazy evening at the hospital. I'll be taking him back to see the doctor on Friday to make sure that the bones are still in place and that the swelling has gone down. Then within a week he should have a hard cast on. Now I'm just hoping his body can heal itself quickly because this is going to be a very long six weeks for a little boy who LOVES to play sports and was excited to go swimming in the gym pool that's opening up in a couple weeks.
